The meeting was opened by Chair Debby Stinson.

Reading of the Minutes and Treasurer’s Report
The minutes were read and a motion was made by Scott Wantland to accept them as read. Butch Johnson seconded the motion and the motion carried. Roseann Cahoe, Treasurer, reported that there is $1504.11 in the regular account and $1125.11 is available. A check was written for the Bullitt County Fair booth.

Executive Committee and Secretary Vacancy
There is a vacancy in the Executive Committee due to the departure of Shirley Lack. Shirley is moving to Florida and also experiencing some health problems and is in the prayers of the Bullitt County Democratic Party. Debby Stinson indicated that she cannot be both chair and secretary and so a new secretary must be found. Ben Roberts has agreed to serve as Secretary Pro Tem until such time as a new secretary has been named. A motion to table nominations for the Executive Committee was entered by Scott Wantland and seconded by Carolyn Jesse. The new executive committee member needs to be a woman but anyone can serve as secretary, whether they are on the Executive Committee or not.
.
Promotional Items
Roseann Cahoe went to Oriental Trading Company and ordered 1,000+ small gliders in patriotic colors/themes, as well as temporary tattoos. She is also looking into buying 720 pencils with 3 lines at 40 characters each for $90.00. A suggestion was made to use the motto “Bullitt County Democrats: Good People, Like You” which has appeared on other promotional materials. Mike Fackler Jr. noted that previous items have included “Made in China” and stressed the importance of buying American products. Roseann noted that doing so would be expensive. Bobby Routon also mentioned that he has several thousand refrigerator magnets with “Toys for Tots” branding on them. Roseann Cahoe suggested that stickers with Bullitt County Democrats information on them could be affixed to the magnets and Tina Smith offered to assist with this effort.
.
Mount Washington Spring Festival
We have a booth for the Mount Washington Spring Festival which is Saturday, May 9. Volunteers are needed to man the booth, which will be near the middle school as in previous years. Nichols is also having a spring festival on Saturday and candidates are encouraged to make an appearance at these festivals.
.
Pioneer News Graduation Edition
The Pioneer News is having a special section for graduation and is selling advertising for this section at $110 for a 2×7 ad (and larger sizes for higher prices). The section runs May 27. Scott Wantland made a motion to abstain from advertising at this time. The motion was seconded by Mike Fackler Jr. and carried.
.
Bullitt County Fair
The Bullitt County Fair booth has been paid for and is in the same place as it was last year.
.

Randy Nalley is running for 3rd District Magistrate.
.
State Senate District 20 (2010)
Gary Tapp has announced that he will not seek reelection for his Senate Seat and has endorsed Shelby County Republican Paul Hornback. Happy Cahoe emphasized that Bullitt County should be represented. It was pointed out that the District 20 State Senate seat has not been represented by a Bullitt County resident since 1948. Debby indicated that a committee has been formed to find a candidate and it is being headed by Eric Ferris of Jefferson County. Several names were entered into consideration, as follows:

  • Sam Hardy
  • John Spainhour
  • Tom Cavants
  • Anne McAfee
  • Mike Fackler Jr.
  • Dennis Mitchell
  • Rob Fleherty
  • Joe Sohm

It was emphasized that the Democratic nominee will need to be energetic and campaign hard for this seat. Money concerns were also raised, with estimates for the cost of the seat ranging from $100,000 to $250,000.

.
Public Comment

  • There is a meeting May 28th concerning the roads in Bullitt County, hosted by County Judge Melanie Roberts.
  • Carolyn Jesse indicates that we need a speaker for the FDR Dinner and we need to get tickets out. Preferably the governor will agree to speak. Debbie has called Governor Beshear’s chief of staff but has not yet received a callback. Happy Cahoe and Scott Wantland discussed the possibilty of getting both Jack Conway and Dan Mongiardo to speak, as they will be engaged in a primary for the US Senate seat currently held by Jim Bunning.

.
Motion to adjourn was made by Scott Wantland and seconded by Carolyn Jesse. The motion was carried.
.
Respectfully Submitted,
Benjamin Roberts, Secretary Pro Tem
